Compliance officers use AI every day. They ask ChatGPT about regulatory changes, query Perplexity for enforcement actions, and use Claude to analyze policy documents. When those same compliance officers need to evaluate RegTech platforms, they ask AI for recommendations. The question is whether your platform shows up in the answer.
We tested 25+ compliance and RegTech queries across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude in April 2026. The results reveal a market that is wide open. Unlike fleet management (where Samsara dominates) or CRM (where Salesforce and HubSpot own the citations), the compliance software AI citation landscape is fragmented. No single platform dominates across all sub-categories. The first RegTech company to optimize for AI visibility in its sub-category will own that citation position for months or years.
RegTech is a $12B+ market growing at 20%+ annually. The buyers -- Chief Compliance Officers, VP of Risk, Head of Regulatory Affairs -- are power AI users. They are already asking AI which platforms to evaluate. The only question is whether your platform is in the answer.

The compliance software sub-categories AI treats differently
Unlike horizontal software categories (CRM, project management), AI assistants treat compliance software as multiple distinct sub-categories. A query about "AML compliance software" returns completely different results than "GRC platform" or "regulatory change management." This matters for optimization strategy: you need to target your specific sub-category, not "compliance software" broadly.
| Sub-Category | Typical Buyer | Key AI Query Patterns |
|---|---|---|
| GRC (Governance, Risk, Compliance) | CISO, VP Risk | "best GRC platform," "GRC software comparison" |
| AML / KYC | Chief Compliance Officer, BSA Officer | "AML compliance software," "KYC verification platform" |
| Regulatory Change Management | Head of Regulatory Affairs | "regulatory change management software," "regulatory intelligence platform" |
| Sanctions Screening | Compliance Analyst, VP Operations | "sanctions screening software," "OFAC screening platform" |
| Data Privacy / GDPR | DPO, Privacy Counsel | "GDPR compliance software," "data privacy management platform" |
| SOX / Financial Compliance | CFO, Internal Audit | "SOX compliance software," "internal controls management" |
| Healthcare Compliance (HIPAA) | Compliance Officer, CIO | "HIPAA compliance software," "healthcare compliance management" |

| Query | Products Recommended | Citation Strength |
|---|---|---|
| "best AML compliance software" | NICE Actimize, Hummingbird, Alessa, ComplyAdvantage | Moderate |
| "KYC verification platform" | Jumio, Onfido, Trulioo, ComplyAdvantage | Strong |

Perplexity recommendations: compliance software
Perplexity's inline citations reveal which sources drive compliance software recommendations:
| Query | Products Recommended | Sources Cited |
|---|---|---|
| "best compliance management platform 2026" | ServiceNow, LogicGate, Diligent, OneTrust | G2, Gartner, compliance industry blogs |
| "RegTech solutions for financial services" | NICE Actimize, ComplyAdvantage, Ascent, Hummingbird | Fintech review sites, RegTech analyst reports |
| "compliance software comparison" | LogicGate, Hyperproof, ZenGRC, StandardFusion | G2, Capterra, SaaS review sites |
Pattern: Perplexity cites analyst reports (Gartner, Forrester) and industry-specific review sites more heavily for compliance software than for other categories. RegTech companies with analyst coverage get a citation boost.
The opportunity: why compliance is wide open
Three factors make compliance software the most attractive AI Visibility opportunity in B2B:
1. No dominant citation leader
Unlike fleet management (Samsara) or CRM (Salesforce), no single compliance platform dominates AI citations across all sub-categories. ServiceNow leads in GRC but is absent from AML queries. OneTrust leads in privacy but is absent from regulatory change queries. This fragmentation means a focused optimization effort in any sub-category can achieve citation dominance within 60-90 days.
2. Buyers are already AI-native
Compliance officers use AI daily for regulatory research. They are not being introduced to AI -- they are power users. When they extend that behavior to vendor evaluation (which they already do), the platform that shows up in the answer gets the evaluation. No cold outreach needed. No ad spend required. The buyer comes to you.
3. Deal sizes justify aggressive investment
RegTech deals range from $100K to $1M+ in annual contract value. A single AI-referred enterprise lead that converts to a customer justifies 12-24 months of AI Visibility investment. Combined with 90%+ retention rates in compliance software, the lifetime value of each AI-acquired client is exceptionally high.
How RegTech companies can dominate AI citations
The playbook for compliance software is more sub-category-specific than other verticals:
Pick your sub-category and own it. Do not try to rank for "compliance software" broadly. Target "AML compliance software for community banks" or "GRC platform for mid-market financial services." Specificity wins in AI citations.
Create regulation-specific content. Pages targeting specific regulations (SOX, GDPR, BSA/AML, HIPAA) get cited at higher rates than generic compliance content. AI assistants match queries to the most specific relevant content.
Publish comparison content against category leaders. "Your Platform vs ServiceNow GRC," "Your Platform vs OneTrust for GDPR." Compliance buyers ask AI for direct comparisons. If you do not have comparison content, you cannot be cited in comparison answers.
Implement schema markup. Article, Product, and FAQPage schema on every product and solution page. Fewer than 10% of RegTech companies have implemented any structured data. See: Schema Markup for AI
Get analyst coverage cited. If you have Gartner, Forrester, or IDC coverage, make sure those reports are referenced and linked from your site. Perplexity and Gemini cite analyst reports heavily for compliance software.
