The LMS market serves two fundamentally different buyers: education (K-12 and higher ed) and corporate training. AI treats these as separate categories with different citation leaders. When an L&D director asks ChatGPT "What is the best LMS for corporate training?" the answer is different from what a university CIO gets for "best LMS for higher education."
We tested 15+ LMS and EdTech queries across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude in April 2026. Canvas dominates education. Corporate LMS is fragmented with no clear citation leader. Training-type-specific queries are the most underserved.
The global LMS market exceeds $20B. Corporate training alone is a $370B market. L&D professionals are heavy AI users who trust AI for content creation and naturally extend that to platform evaluation.

Where LMS vendors can win
Training-type-specific queries
Compliance training, sales enablement, customer education, partner training, and onboarding are all distinct categories. Each has different feature requirements and different buyers. LMS vendors that create content for specific training types can own those citation positions.
Industry-specific training queries
Healthcare training (HealthStream, Relias lead), manufacturing training (wide open), financial services training (compliance-heavy), and retail training (frontline workers) each have unique requirements. Most LMS vendors have zero industry-specific content.
The playbook
Own a training type. "LMS for Compliance Training," "LMS for Customer Education," "LMS for Sales Enablement."
Own an industry. "LMS for Manufacturing Training," "LMS for Healthcare," "LMS for Financial Services."
Create comparison content. "[Your LMS] vs Docebo for [Training Type]," "[Your LMS] vs TalentLMS for [Company Size]."
Target L&D publications. Training Magazine, CLO Magazine, and eLearning Industry are cited by Perplexity.
Implement schema markup. Article, Product, and FAQPage schema. See: Schema Markup for AI
