Founding Case Study

How We Got AnswerManiac Cited by AI Platforms in 40 Days

We applied The ANSWER Framework to our own site. Starting AI Visibility Score: 34/100. Within 40 days we were cited by ChatGPT, ranking #1 on Perplexity, and appearing on Google — with screenshot proof for every claim.

Look, it's easy for an AEO agency to tell clients “trust the process.” It's harder to show your own numbers. So that's what we're doing.

This is the unfiltered story of applying The ANSWER Framework to our own site — what worked, what surprised us, and the actual results with screenshot proof from every AI platform.

The Starting Point

34
out of 100

Before we ran a single optimization, we audited ourselves using the same process we use for clients. The results were humbling.

Platform-by-Platform (15 queries each)

ChatGPT
0 citations
Perplexity
2 citations
Gemini
0 citations
Claude
0 citations
Copilot
0 citations

We tested queries like “best AEO agency,” “answer engine optimization services,” “how to get cited by ChatGPT,” “AI visibility optimization agency.”

The uncomfortable truth: we were invisible. An AEO agency that AI didn't recommend. The cobbler's children had no shoes.

Week 1

Audit + Navigate

What We Found

The audit revealed three core problems:

Entity confusion

Our LinkedIn page said “digital marketing agency.” Our website said “AI SEO agency.” Our G2 profile said something else entirely. AI models couldn't confidently categorize us because we hadn't given them consistent signals.

Zero citation assets

We had blog posts, but they were standard SEO content — “what is AEO” explainers that summarized existing knowledge. Nothing original. Nothing AI would cite as a source.

No community signals

Zero G2 reviews. No Reddit mentions. No Quora answers. No third-party publications referencing us. AI models had no external validation to draw from.

We identified every high-value query where we wanted to appear. For each, we documented which competitors currently get cited, what content the AI pulls from, and what would need to exist for us to earn that citation.

Week 2

Structure

Schema Overhaul

  • Organization schema with complete entity data (founder, founding date, service area, contact)
  • Service schema for each pricing tier (The Proof, Growth Engine, Category Monopoly)
  • FAQPage schema on every blog post and service page
  • Article schema with author entities on all content
  • HowTo schema on methodology pages

Entity Reconciliation

This was the bigger project. We updated:

  • LinkedIn company page: Rewritten to match website positioning exactly. "AI Visibility Agency" not "digital marketing."
  • Crunchbase: Created a proper profile with consistent entity data
  • G2: Completed our profile with detailed product descriptions, screenshots, and category placement
  • Google Business Profile: Updated with AEO-specific service descriptions
  • Twitter/X bio: Aligned with all other platforms

Every platform now tells the same story: AnswerManiac is an AEO agency that gets B2B companies recommended by AI.

Impact after Week 2: Schema changes accounted for roughly 4 points. Entity reconciliation added another 18. Consistent with what we see across client sites — entity work moves the needle 4.5x more than schema alone.

Week 3

Write

We created citation assets in a single week:

Platform-specific guides

Detailed breakdowns for ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Copilot — each explaining how that specific model decides who to cite.

Comparison content

"AEO vs. SEO" and competitor analysis pages designed to be cited when users ask AI to compare approaches.

Each piece was structured with a direct answer block in the first paragraph (the quotable sound bite), FAQ sections targeting specific AI queries, structured data, and internal links connecting our entity across content.

The key difference from normal content marketing: every piece was designed around a specific question someone asks AI, not a keyword someone types into Google. Different target, different structure, different outcome.

Week 4+

Earn + Refine

Community Consensus Push

  • Solicited G2 reviews from early clients and beta users
  • Answered relevant Quora questions with genuine, detailed responses (not spam — real expertise)
  • Participated in Reddit threads across r/SEO, r/marketing, and r/artificial
  • Published LinkedIn posts that generated meaningful engagement and discussion

What We Observed

We checked our AI Visibility Score daily during Week 4:

Perplexity: Responded fastest. Searches the web in real-time, so our new citation assets showed up in results within days of publishing.
Gemini: Picked up entity changes within 2 weeks. Google's infrastructure meant our GBP and schema changes translated to citations relatively quickly.
ChatGPT: Slowest but came through. Training data lag meant our brand started appearing in responses toward the end of the 40-day period.
Copilot: Remained stubborn. Microsoft's ecosystem seems to require longer-term Bing visibility and LinkedIn authority.

What Worked Best

1

Entity reconciliation was the single highest-impact action (4.5x more effective than schema alone). Making every platform tell the same story gave AI models the confidence to cite us.

2

Direct answer blocks at the top of citation assets got quoted verbatim by Perplexity more often than any other content format.

3

Well-structured, intent-focused service pages with strong entity signals got picked up by both Perplexity and ChatGPT as authoritative sources — organic content that answers real queries wins on AI and Google alike.

4

FAQ schema correlated with the fastest citation pickup — pages with comprehensive FAQ schema appeared in AI answers before similar pages without it.

What Surprised Us

G2 reviews mattered more than we expected. After our first reviews landed, we saw a noticeable uptick in Perplexity citations. The platform explicitly sources G2 data.

Reddit > Quora for ChatGPT. ChatGPT pulled from Reddit threads more frequently than Quora answers in our testing.

Brand search queries unlocked citations. Once people started searching "AnswerManiac" directly (from our LinkedIn activity), AI models seemed to increase our citation frequency for non-branded queries too.

What Didn't Work (Yet)

Guest posts on generic marketing blogs produced zero measurable citation impact. AI doesn't weight these the same way Google does.

Social media volume (posting 3x/day vs. 1x/day) made no difference to citation rates. Quality and engagement mattered; frequency didn't.

Copilot remained stubborn. Microsoft's ecosystem seems to require longer-term Bing visibility and LinkedIn authority before citing consistently.

What this means for your business

If we — an AEO agency — started at 34/100 and needed a structured 40-day effort to get cited, imagine where most B2B companies stand.

The gap is the opportunity. Most of your competitors haven't started. The ANSWER Framework works — we proved it on ourselves first. The 5 key takeaways from this experiment apply directly to any B2B company.

FAQ

Is this case study using real data?

Yes. Every number comes from our actual AI Visibility Tracker data. Screenshots are unedited captures from live AI platforms. We'll update this page with 60, 90, and 180-day measurements as they come in.

Can any company replicate these results?

The framework is replicable. Exact numbers vary based on your industry, competition, existing content, and domain authority. Companies in less competitive niches often see faster results.

What tools did you use?

Our own AI Visibility Tracker for scoring, Ahrefs for domain analysis, Google Search Console for technical SEO data, Schema.org validator for structured data testing, and manual queries across all 5 AI platforms.

How much did this cost to execute?

Internal labor only. No paid advertising, no sponsored content, no paid backlinks. The entire experiment was organic.
