Query Synthesis
An AI system generating new machine-written queries from your one prompt.
Query synthesis is the step where an AI system writes new queries of its own from your single prompt — rephrasings, narrower sub-questions, and related angles — to retrieve a fuller set of sources. It is the engine behind query fan-out, and it means the search that actually runs is often not the words you typed.
For content teams, query synthesis reinforces the value of covering the meaning of a topic rather than one phrasing. The engine will generate variants you did not anticipate, and your pages need to match those by meaning. It also makes exact-match keyword optimisation less reliable than thorough, clearly written coverage.
Anticipating the synthesised questions — by researching how buyers actually phrase their follow-ups — is a practical way to earn presence across the variants.
