Structured Answer Block
A self-contained passage formatted so an engine can lift it whole as a direct answer.
A structured answer block is a short, deliberately formatted passage — often a highlighted definition box, a tight paragraph, a list or a small table — designed so an engine can take the whole block as a complete answer. It packages a question and its answer in a shape machines parse easily.
The blocks that get used share a pattern: the question is explicit, the answer is immediate and specific, and the formatting signals the boundaries of the answer. Definition boxes at the top of a page, comparison tables, and step lists marked up with HowTo schema are all structured answer blocks. They do double duty, winning both featured snippets and AI citations.
The discipline is to design at least one such block per page around the primary question that page targets, then let the rest of the page provide the depth and evidence that makes the block trustworthy.
