Answer Engine Optimization(AEO)

Structuring content so answer engines can return your answer directly.

Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) is the discipline of formatting and structuring content so an answer engine can extract a direct, correct answer from it. Where GEO is the broad goal of being cited by generative engines, AEO is the on-page craft that makes a passage liftable: a clear question, an immediate answer, and supporting detail underneath, marked up so machines can parse it.

AEO tactics include answer-first writing, FAQ and HowTo structure, definition blocks, tables for comparisons, and schema markup that labels what each block means. The test for any AEO passage is simple: could an engine copy these two or three sentences into an answer, attribute them to you, and have them still be true and self-contained? If a sentence only makes sense after three paragraphs of setup, it is not AEO-ready.

AEO and traditional SEO are complementary. A page still has to be found and trusted, but AEO decides whether, once found, it gets quoted or skipped. For most B2B teams AEO is the fastest lever because it is fully within your control — it is editing, not outreach.

Frequently asked

What is the difference between AEO and GEO?

AEO is the on-page work that makes a passage directly answerable and liftable; GEO is the wider goal of being cited across generative engines. AEO is one of the main ways you achieve GEO.
