Entity Optimization
Making a brand or topic unambiguously recognizable to engines as a distinct entity.
Entity optimization is the work of making your brand, product or topic unambiguously recognisable to search engines and AI as a single, distinct entity. It means using one consistent name, one clear category description, and the same facts everywhere — on your site, in structured data, on third-party profiles and in knowledge bases like Wikidata.
It is often the highest-impact and most underrated part of GEO. Content and links do little if the engine cannot tell who the content is about. When the entity is clean, every other signal attaches correctly; when it is fuzzy, signals scatter and the model defaults to clearer competitors.
The core moves are consistency and corroboration: standardise your name and description, mark up Organization and sameAs schema, and get third parties to describe you the same way.
Frequently asked
Why does entity optimization matter for AI search?
AI answers reason about entities, not just keywords. If a model can confidently resolve who you are, it can connect you to the right category and facts; if your identity is ambiguous, it defaults to a competitor it can resolve.
